The Dream-Maker's Magic

The Dream-Maker's Magic: " The Dream-Maker's Magic by Sharon Shinn is the third book in a series that started with The Safe-Keeper's Secret. Each book in the series is set in the same kingdom, but focus on different characters. This book is about Kellen, a girl who is raised as a boy because her mother insists that she gave birth to a boy rather than a girl. When Kellen starts school, she meets Gryffin, a very intelligent boy whose legs are damaged so that he walks with canes. They are both outcasts of the village because of their differences, and they become fast friends. Through the years, they meet a variety of characters as they work in bed and breakfasts and a bustling inn. Their friendship is just starting to turn into something else when Gryffin's life changes forever and he must leave their village for the capital city. If you enjoyed the previous two books in the series this one is just for you. Though it features the stories of Kellen and Gryffin, readers get to see many of the other people of the realm. Babar Turns 75

Babar Turns 75: "Yahoo! News tells us that Babar, elephant hero of children's books, turns 75 this year. The article is wonderful and ends with this: 'Children of an age to appreciate Babar, that's to say between two and seven years, haven't changed that much even if they sometimes like playing with computers,' de Brunhoff said. That's right! They may enjoy computers, but those kids can and will read books as long as the adults around them make it a priority. Just think of all the great books new and old to share with one another. Makes you want to run right out to your local library, doesn't it?"

American Revolution

American Revolution: "After Britain's expensive victory in the French and Indian War of 1754 - 1763, the crown decided to recoup some of the costs of defending the colonies by taxing the colonists. The colonists were outraged at the tax, but unlike their British counterparts, had no elected representatives in Parliament. 'Taxation without representation is tyranny,' became a battle cry. Each year at this time, we celebrate the colonists' victory and the birth of our nation. Happy Independence Day! . . . Continue reading American Revolution Also from Barbara J. $10 MP3 Player, Back in Blue

$10 MP3 Player, Back in Blue: " Last month, Evergreen amazed everyone with their 999 Yen (~US$10) that uses external SD memory cards as its song storage method. Now the MP3 player is back in shades of dark blue and pastel blue. Other than the color change, the player remains at the same tiny size of 58 x 60 x 13mm and weighs just 30g. The player also doubles as a SD card reader, but it runs at pathetic USB 1.1 speeds. And perhaps the biggest downside of this player is that the largest supported SD card size is a mere 1GB. So tough luck, for those who thought they could put their camera’s 4GB SD cards to good use while not photographing. But hey, what’s 10 bucks? Order the 999 Yen MP3 Player here. Hubble Finds 'Tenth Planet' Is Slightly Larger Than Pluto

Hubble Finds 'Tenth Planet' Is Slightly Larger Than Pluto: "NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has resolved the 'tenth planet,' nicknamed 'Xena,' for the first time and has found that it is only just a little larger than Pluto. Though previous ground-based observations suggested that Xena was about 30 percent greater in diameter than Pluto, Hubble observations taken on Dec. 9 and 10, 2005, yield a diameter of 1,490 miles (with an uncertainty of 60 miles) for Xena. Pluto's diameter, as measured by Hubble, is 1,422 miles."
